Transitioning from 3 Naps to 2 Naps

Transitioning from 3 naps to 2 typically happens naturally between 7 and 9 months.

If you are unsure what to look out for, here are some signs your baby may be ready:

  • Age: Is your baby 7-9 months old?
  • Daytime Sleep: Is your baby getting approx 3.5 hours sleep scross the first 2 naps?
  • Nap Refusal: Is your baby consistently refusing the 3rd nap?
  • Bedtime: Is nap 3 impacting bedtime?

When on 2 naps, aim for nap 1 to start close to 9/9.30am and nap 2 close to 1/1.30pm with a total of 3.5 hours day time sleep across the 2 naps.

As with all things sleep, each child is different so work towards your child’s individual sleep needs. Keep an eye on their sleep cues to determine the timing that best suits your baby.
